Finally finished: Craftsy BOM, 2012

Back in 2012-ish, I got started on several Block of the Month projects.  Maybe I was just excited to start things.  Maybe I underestimated how much time I’d need to sew multiple sampler blocks every month and/ or overestimated how much time I had to devote to quilty projects.  Both, probably.  Eventually, I had to focus on working on one at a time, finishing my “Bloggers BOM” in 2013 and the “Half Square Triangle BOM” in 2015 (it looks like I never got around to announcing that finish).  It seems appropriate that the “Craftsy BOM” was finished in 2017.  The …

Catching up with the Craftsy BOM

Just when I thought I’d manage to get all caught up on all my Block of the Month projects, it had to go and become July. I’m now behind in all three BOMs, again, and likely to stay there for the rest of the summer. Quilting is a cold-weather hobby, right? Summer is time for garden projects and food preserving projects and doing-things-with-Caitlyn projects. Back at the Craftsy BOM, in April, the blocks were all about English paper piecing. I don’t think I’ll take this up an a regular thing (best wishes to all those doing FatQuarterly’s English paper piecing …

The Blocks of March

It’s Block of the Month round-up time! First up, the block for the Blogger’s BOM. It’s really February’s block, but since new blocks are announced late in the month, I just make them the following month. This block looks like February, what with the pink/red/purple thing. I guess I wasn’t thinking things through all the way when I picked out the solids for this block. Mostly I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t leaning too hard on the yellow, orange, and green I’d used in the last two blocks. I started with blue instead of the pink, but it …

More Half-Square Triangles

The theme for the month at the Craftsy BOM this time around is Half-Square Triangles. Instructor Amy Gibson covered the traditional “drawn-line” method (layer your squares, draw a diagonal line, sew on either side, cut apart) and the alternative “magic” method (layer your larger squares, sew around all four sides, make two diagonal cuts). A little funny that I’m HST-ing twice this month. This block is a traditional design, a Windblown Star or a Balkan Puzzle. Favorite block this time around, and perhaps of all four so far (January’s are here). I’m also really happy with my color selections, although …

Show and Tell

Sampler quilts haven’t ever really been my thing. I tend to like a more coherent look, which is weird if you’ve ever seen my interior decor aesthetic. Our living room isn’t matchy-matchy at all, although I will confess to a certain amount of post-purchase, pre-delivery angst regarding our new dining room table and whether it would at least not clash with the chairs we already had. (In case you’re wondering, it’s worked out fine.) So, it’s a little odd that I’ve been working on the Blogger’s Block of the Month since last fall. Every month, a different block. Sure, I’m …
