(Circus) Graduation Day

Last week, Caitlyn had her last class with Leslie, her circus coach of at least two years. Time to move on to Circus 2B! I don’t often bring a camera to circus class. Most of the time, parents are gently directed to an observation room. Because of the way SANCA has grown, these days the observation room overlooks only about half the gym, resulting in about 2/3 of Caitlyn’s circus time happening out of view. But every twelve weeks, out come the folding chairs for “Demonstration Week.” I brought the camera and followed the class around, ignoring the chairs and …

New Rule

Teeth lost after 12 midnight Will Not be reported to the Tooth Fairy until the following daylight period. No matter how many times you wake up your mother to tell her your tooth fell out and the resulting hole feels “like the suction cup on an octopus tentacle.” Save

Crying over Broken Plates

During the usual Wednesday shenanigans yesterday, we lost a plate. It shattered in typical Corelle fashion, tiny fragments surrounding a waffle (peanut butter side down, of course) and skittering across the kitchen floor. The impact scared the cat so badly, he knocked over the stool he’d been on as he fled the room. I don’t know if it’s a testament to the durability of Corelle dishes or just a particularly wide streak of luck, but this is the first plate we’ve lost in more than 10 years. Someone did point out that once you break one, the rest follow suit …

Dragon Plans

Caitlyn: “I think dragons are like other animals. The boys fight for the girls.” School has been celebrating Lunar New Year, so dragons are a frequent topic these days. Me: “Really?” Caitlyn: “Uh-huh.” Her voice gets all dreamy. “N. fought for me today. He won.” Me: “So, you’re going to grow up and marry N. now?” Caitlyn, still dreamy: “Uh-huh.” I wonder what the young man in question thinks of this. He probably has no idea.

At least it ended well

First, a rant: Washington’s state constitution says, “[i]t is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders…” (Article XI, Section 1). We had one federal holiday and three and one-half snow days last week. Caitlyn went to school for a grand total of 2 hours. We were scheduled to have a school holiday this Friday (I’m not sure why), but that has now been canceled. School will be in session on Friday as a make-up day for one of the snow days last week. If you’ve already made …

One last gift post

I know everyone has moved on to new projects (new year, new goals, new determination!), but I’m still wrapping up/catching up. I’ve got one last gift post and then I can move on to the Things I Didn’t Do Because I Was Making Caramels post(s). By that time that’s done, perhaps I’ll have a post for Something New Made in January. Maybe. Anyway, now that we’ve had our last holiday gift exchange, I can share this: Because you can’t give caramels to kids who don’t have teeth yet. I’d love to say that I came up with the idea for this …
