Other February Makes

A small collection of photos of some of the other things sewn in the last month. The light is all kinds of weird in these photos, mostly because it’s February in Seattle. These were all made from stash fabric, so they qualify for this month’s Stashbusting “goals.” And since none of them are for me, they even meet the Challenge criteria (make something for someone else). That’s got to be a first for me. The January/February blocks for Sew.Quilt.Give. (Ok, I also made my blocks for March since I’m hosting, but those will get their own post.) These are all …

Bees and Swaps

It’s come to my attention that I forgot to post a photo of the blocks I made for the November installment of Sew.Quilt.Give. I’m really curious to see how this one is going to look all put together. These are super simple to make and could be a bit of a stash-buster if you were feeling scrappy (or if you have a larger/more diverse scrap pile than I do). Would strips in spectrum-order end up too cutesy? Speaking of Sew.Quilt.Give., Marian has finished the quilt from July’s blocks. My blocks are still more saturated than everyone else’s but at least …

October Bee Blocks

For Sew.Quilt.Give. this month, Maria asked for string blocks a la this tutorial in greens and yellows with a touch of gray. String blocks! Yay! (It’s been weirdly sunny for weeks here in Seattle. I totally should have filtered the sunlight somehow for this picture!) I’m feeling a bit more confident about my colors mixing well with everyone else’s this time. It doesn’t hurt that greens were some of the colors I picked up when I added some fat quarters to the stash for the August blocks. Really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out! (Don’t forget! The …

Sew.Quilt.Give. Bee Blocks

I have managed, just barely, to get my blocks for the Sew.Quilt.Give. Bee done and mailed off before running out of time. I’ve been much more behind when it comes to posting them. These were August’s blocks. We used this tutorial and were supposed to use a “muted” palette. Nothing quite like specific color requests to point out the holes in my fabric stash! I think these are more muted in reality. At least I hope so. Jenn recently posted the finished quilts from June, a baby quilt for a girl and for a boy. The quilts came out great, …

Bee Blocks

Sew. Quilt. Give. made granny square blocks this month! I’ve been watching all sorts of quilted granny squares pop up all over Teh Interwebs since the beginning of the year, and this was such a nice way to get to know the block without committing to a whole quilt’s worth. Cutting out the squares for these two blocks wasn’t intimidating, although it’s probably a good thing I didn’t do the math until just now – if I’d known I was sitting down to cut 50 2.5 inch squares, I’m might have found it a lot less approachable! I knew I …

A Moment of Sun

It’s all we get these days up here in Seattle. A moment when the clouds drift apart for just a bit, and there is a moment of sun. Quick! Pictures! ‘Cause it’ll start raining again soon. I love not needing to water the yard but, man, are my tomatoes sad. Anyway, I caught a moment of sun this morning and was finally able to photograph my two June blocks for Sew. Quilt. Give. This is a new virtual quilting bee (meaning that we don’t actually get together physically to work on quilt blocks, not that we’re making virtual quilts), and …
