Other February Makes

A small collection of photos of some of the other things sewn in the last month. The light is all kinds of weird in these photos, mostly because it’s February in Seattle. These were all made from stash fabric, so they qualify for this month’s Stashbusting “goals.” And since none of them are for me, they even meet the Challenge criteria (make something for someone else). That’s got to be a first for me. The January/February blocks for Sew.Quilt.Give. (Ok, I also made my blocks for March since I’m hosting, but those will get their own post.) These are all …

Other things I made in December

Rather than drag out the “catching up with things I made last month” posts any more than I already have, here’s a (incomplete and abbreviated) wrap up of some of the things I made on a whim. Like these woven stars. I used Betz White’s tutorial, which is way easy to follow. I used tweezers instead of a bodkin (’cause I don’t have one) to finish the weaving. The binder clip hint is essential. I am wondering if these stars would come out if I used sewn fabric tubes instead of quarter-fold strips. There’s a lot of fabric folded away …

All wrapped up

Remember this project? Want to see what it became? These bags are officially tradition now. I made about a dozen (some of last year’s bags were returned for refills) of the tutorial size of Jeni‘s Drawstring Bags, which is the perfect size for several bundles of homemade candy. This year, the fabric bags contained the required caramels and English toffee (from Grandpa’s recipes), as well as salted caramels (which might become a staple), peanut brittle and chocolate dipped marshmallows. I was hoping to also include opera cremes, but that didn’t work out so well. And I ran out of time …

Tangle Storage

I’ve recently discovered Zentangle (it’s Jackie‘s fault). And someday, perhaps, I’ll show some of my tangles. Not yet, though. More relevantly, I decided that I didn’t want to carry my tangling supplies around in a beat-up gallon ziploc kitchen escapee. I’m probably breaking all sorts of tangle etiquette by not tangling in a more meditative fashion. Oh, well. Maybe when I’m all grown up I’ll figure out how to get up before dawn, write 1000 words, do 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, center myself with a tangle, and be all peaceful, productive smiles for my family at breakfast. Apparently, I’m …

Everything in its Bag

Remember these? They are the Charming Travelers that stayed here when the rest of them moved on to GrammieQ. Want to know what I did with them? Or, at least most of them? A project bag! See the tan floral-ish square in the lower right? That’s the charm that influenced all my choices. I used the blue colorway of this fabric to back a quilt a couple years ago. So the arrival of this other color meant I was going to do something that brought both colorways together. The blue version of the fabric is the lining inside the bag …

Summer Retrospective: Sword-Play

Corrugated cardboard. Glue gun. Spray paint. Bling. Caitlyn and I have been (slowly) working our way through Craftsy‘s Costume Box class. I always seem to think we’ll have more time over the summer than we actually do. Fortunately, Craftsy’s classes don’t come with specific time limitations so we can watch the class lessons whenever we have time. At the rate we’re going, we’ll maybe get one more project done before Halloween. Starting with the sword was Caitlyn’s choice. Of course, she also wants wings, crowns, cloaks, wands, a fairy skirt, armor and boot covers. I expect she’ll try to wear …
